The next release will remove the need to empty these out. Makes more sense but might break some compatibility.

theme_advanced_buttons2: "",
theme_advanced_buttons3: "",

What I need is that:
- textarea1 has no buttons at all
- textarea2 has only 'print' button

At the moment it is like this:

tinyMCE.init({
mode : "specific_textareas",
editor_selector : "textarea1",
theme : "simple"
});
tinyMCE.init({
mode : "specific_textareas",
editor_selector : "textarea2",
theme : "advanced",
plugins : "print",

theme_advanced_buttons1 : "print"

Ya, create multiple init functions and use editor_selector to distinguish them.
