Do a server-side transformation from XHTML to HTML. It's the easiest and most reliable solution.

I added the code written here but my tinymce still produces invalid code. I mean I have <img > instead of <img /> and <input > instead of <input /> and <br> instead of <br />.

Is there a solution for this issue? I want to produce really valid XHTML 1.0 code.

The strange thing in this situation is when I diff the code generated when I press the save button and the code when I press html button. So the preview code generated from html button is pretty standard xhtml 1.0 code but the other code generated after save button there is a lot of non standard tags.

Why this happens ?
Do you have any idea ?

I used the long full valid_elements config from the wiki for XHTML.

The editor still generates invalid attributes like target= or align=

What should I try next?

There seem to missing a element which isn't closed properly, the area-tag. It should be(according to the xhtml specification) written as <area ... /> instead of <area ...></area>.

Impressive list of elements taken into account !

It seemed fine when I copied /  past a valid page to see if output was still valid.

I'm not sure about how it works, but I suppose some elements are still not taken into account though since I can still find unvalid code, when copied and passed from an invalide site (example : google search for tinymce !)

Something else is funny : if I copy / paste the whole google page, I can see it in my textarea, but on my "show.php" page it only shows the one single line ! Is that due to frames or something ?

Maybe something comes from my code, which I should test on a simplier basis, I'll do that later if you don't find the same kind of troubles on yours.

is there something I'm missing? this is something I've been having trouble with for months. its for a very important project. html templates are inputted into the tinymce form and sent to the DB. yet hr tags and other are still being cut.

Never ever use "cleanup: false,". Then everyhing TinyMCE does will the HTML is thrown out the window so then IE or FF can do what ever they want and the browsers especially IE really messes up HTML code.

ok, I took out "cleanup: false,", yet it still strips out the hr I'm trying to put in. and I'm using the hr button on TinyMCE.

hello everyone. I've tried to use the code and for the most part it works. In the case that it doesn't work is when I go to google and pull up search results for something random and then copy and paste everything into MS Word, then copy from that and paste it in the MCE editor. I save the content, then I go back to check it. it saved the content OUTSIDE the editor. It looks something like this:

any ideas? i thought it might have something to do with unclosed <div> tags but I can that it is included in the script so  I'm assuming that it would automatically fix that. Other than that I have no idea

i found that any <textarea> tags will cause the code to break, causing the above display issue to occur so i just added textarea to invalid_elements. thanks for your time!

Yeah, whatever. You still don't properly encode your contents. This is why your document structure breaks.

Hi,
If the script is sitting in an XML template to be rendered via certain CMS's the validation routine errors:

"System.Xml.XmlException: The '?' character, hexadecimal value 0x3F, cannot be included in a name"

What is a good workaround for this problem ?
